A Vaulted Guard
Pattern making through global displacement.
Perception relies on the separation of space through patterns of recognition in the visual world. These patterns exist on both the macro and micro level.
How we navigate our environment whether locally in the community or globally in relation to countries or continents, begins to evolve into macro patterns of recognition. This is similar to the global flight patterns to destinations worldwide and/or the diaspora associated with the displacement of people now and throughout history.
The work stems from personal experience as an immigrant and as a child from a family of immigrants travelling from the East and West to meet and settle in a new world.
The early study of Gothic church floorplans led to an initial interest in the fluid patterns of movement of bodies through large expanses of space associated with the ritual of living
