Shaffer_Kyoto Vessel

‘Kyoto Vessel’ has a rich texture that compliments its spiky form. A crackled surface is created by first underglazing and afterwards, applying a special glaze that shrinks in an uneven cobblestone effect creating fissures where you can see the coloration of the glaze or underglaze beneath it. The lighter colored raised texture emerge dramatically from the deep browns and blacks giving this work both a contemporary and historical quality. An expression of urban decay and the multi layered beauty of the aging process.
